Job Profile

SC Whitmore School teachers report directly to the Director of Teacher Quality and Support and work one-to-one with students to effectively teach course material until satisfactory progress is achieved. 

South Carolina Whitmore School (SCWS) is an innovative leader in providing a high-quality, personalized, online high school learning environment. SCWS utilizes a personalized, self-paced learning model with an extended school year to support and promote the academic success of at-risk high school students throughout South Carolina.  

The teacher will be responsible for the successful completion of the following tasks:

  • Support each student's personalized learning program with asynchronous lessons and synchronous one-to-one teaching via online tools. 
  • Communicate with students regularly, grade students' work within 24 hours on school days, provide feedback on assignments, and monitor course progress.
  • Develop a detailed knowledge of the courses for which you are responsible; alert supervisor and/or Curriculum Team to concerns related to content.
  • Provide updated personalized lessons to supplement course content as needed. 
  • Support students and parents with alternate strategies to successfully learn course material.
  • Communicate with all faculty and staff within 24 hours, through email, phone, or chat. 
  • Attend or watch recordings of monthly department meetings to stay updated on the school's needs, share input, provide feedback on goals, raise concerns, and seek assistance from colleagues.

Requirements

  • Valid South Carolina licensure/certification as a Spanish Language Teacher.
  • Strong technology and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Student-focused approach to teaching.
  • High degree of flexibility.
