Position: Secondary Science Teacher

Status: Full-time   (July-June)

SC Whitmore School teachers report directly to the Director of Teacher Quality and Support and work one-to-one with students to effectively teach course material until satisfactory progress is achieved. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Support each student's personalized learning program with asynchronous lessons and synchronous instruction using online tools. 

 

  • Communicate regularly with students, grade student work, provide feedback on all assignments, suggest new strategies, and monitor course progress. 
  • Use data provided by the Admin Team to review and improve teaching strategies. 
  • Develop a detailed knowledge of the courses for which you are responsible. 
  • Work with the Curriculum Team to provide updates to course content as needed, for immediate improvements and longer-term projects aimed at improving student outcomes.
  • Support students and parents with alternative strategies to help them successfully learn course material and provide additional assistance with assignments as needed. 
  • Communicate with school counselors and other department members via email, chat, and phone.
  • Keep student grades and communication logs up to date. 
  • Attend monthly faculty and department meetings to stay updated on the school's needs, share input, provide feedback on goals, raise concerns, and seek assistance from coworkers. 
  • Attend professional development sessions and participate in activities that promote personal and professional growth and support the school's mission.  
  • Participate in the SC-mandated teacher evaluation program. 
  • Complete all SC teacher recertification requirements.
  • Assist with state-wide testing administration. Some travel may be required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Valid South Carolina licensure/certification as a Secondary Science Teacher.
