TITLE: Elementary English Reading/Writing/Social Studies Teacher

GENERAL SUMMARY

Under general supervision, supports students in acquiring essential academic, social, and developmental skills that foster their growth into competent and responsible individuals. This position is based on a 190-day schedule and reports directly to the Head of School or their designated representative.

Elementary Teacher Duties

English Instruction

Provide reading, writing, and social studies instruction to individuals and groups using evidence-based strategies like guided reading, explicit phonics, interactive writing, and differentiation to build literacy and integrate social studies for critical thinking.

Lesson Planning and Preparation

Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate these objectives to students. Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to accommodate students’ varying needs and interests. Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities to ensure an effective learning environment.

Classroom Management

Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among students.

Student Assessment and Evaluation

Observe and evaluate students’ performance, behavior, social development, and physical health. Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments to assess students’ progress. Assign and evaluate tasks that demonstrate proficiency in the subjects and target language.

Parent and Stakeholder Communication

Confer with parents or guardians, other teachers, counselors, and administrators to support students’ academic and personal progress and address behavioral and academic concerns.

Other Duties

Perform other duties as assigned by administration or as customary for teachers.

 JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

A valid South Carolina teaching license in Early Childhood or Elementary Education is required. Effective communication with grade school students is essential. Authorization to teach at South Carolina charter schools is required.
