Middle School Math Teacher Position

Position Overview

Performs specialized work in instructing and directing the activities of students in assigned classes to provide a well-organized, smoothly functioning classroom environment that promotes mathematical learning and student success.

Reports to: School Principal

Qualifications

  • Required: Valid South Carolina Teaching Certification
  • Required: Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Education, or related field
  • Required: Ability to relocate to Columbia, SC before starting work
  • Preferred: Experience teaching middle school mathematics

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $40,000 - $60,000+ annually (based on certification and years of experience)
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday, full-time

Essential Job Functions

Instructional Responsibilities

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes at designated locations and times
  • Plans programs of study that meet individual student needs, interests, and abilities
  • Creates classroom environments conducive to learning and appropriate to student maturity levels
  • Prepares for assigned classes and provides written evidence of preparation upon request
  • Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicates these to students
  • Employs variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with location limitations and student needs
  • Implements the school's educational philosophy and instructional goals through instruction and action

Student Assessment & Support

  • Assesses student accomplishments regularly and provides required progress reports
  • Diagnoses student learning needs and seeks assistance from specialists as required
  • Encourages students to set and maintain classroom behavior standards
  • Develops reasonable classroom behavior rules and maintains order in a fair and just manner
  • Makes provisions for student and parent availability outside instructional hours when reasonably requested

Professional Responsibilities

  • Maintains accurate, complete records as required by law, school policy, and administrative regulation
  • Assists administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct
  • Takes necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Plans and supervises assignments for teacher aides and volunteers, evaluating performance with department heads
  • Maintains and improves professional competence through ongoing development
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on committees as required
  • Performs related duties as assigned

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift items needed for job functions
  • Capacity to sit, stand, and walk for required periods
  • Clear speech and hearing abilities
  • Visual acuity including close, color, peripheral vision and depth perception
  • Effective communication in English using proper grammar and vocabulary
  • Manual dexterity to handle objects and operate technology equipment
