The Role

As an Intervention Coach, you will play a vital role in supporting students academically, socially, and emotionally, ensuring they stay engaged and on track to graduate. You will work closely with Graduation Candidates (GCs), educators, and support staff to provide targeted interventions, personalized learning strategies, and holistic support.

Key Responsibilities Academic Support & Intervention

  • Identify students in need of additional academic support through data analysis and staff collaboration.
  • Provide one-on-one and small-group interventions to reinforce key concepts and improve skill gaps.
  • Track students' grades, attendance, and behavior to proactively identify potential barriers to graduation.
  • Facilitate interventions based on trends identified as potential setbacks to academic achievement.
  • Support GCs in obtaining passing scores on required state assessments, End-of-Course exams, college entry exams, and standardized assessments.
  • Collect and analyze student academic achievement data weekly from the LMS.

Student Engagement & Retention

  • Serve as a mentor and advocate, building trusting relationships to encourage persistence.
  • Monitor student attendance, coursework completion, and overall engagement.
  • Implement incentive programs and engagement strategies to improve student motivation.
  • Lead development of Personalized Learning Plans (PLP) for GCs.
  • Guide GCs in developing schedules to meet attendance requirements.
  • Connect students with services to address external barriers affecting academic performance.

Math and Reading Support

  • Provide targeted academic assistance in reading comprehension and math fundamentals.
  • Design and implement specialized interventions for struggling readers and math learners.
  • Track and analyze student progress in math and reading using assessment data.
  • Develop individualized strategies to address specific skill gaps.
  • Create engaging materials to support math and reading development.

College and Career Readiness (CCR)

  • Conduct and analyze career assessments for all GCs.
  • Develop and facilitate comprehensive resume writing workshops.
  • Coordinate CTE course completion tracking and support.
  • Prepare students for state career assessments and ASVAB.
  • Provide targeted support for college/job application completion.
  • Design and deliver instruction in workplace soft skills.
  • Establish partnerships with industry professionals, military recruiters, and college admissions representatives.
  • Create individual CCR progress plans aligned with Profile of SC Graduate requirements.
  • Help students explore career paths based on interests and academic performance.
  • Connect students with internships and job shadowing opportunities.
  • Guide students through college application and scholarship processes.

Collaboration & Advocacy

  • Partner with teachers, Grade Coaches, and academy staff to create a seamless support system.
  • Participate in professional development and data reviews.
  • Engage with families and community organizations.
  • Facilitate communication between students, teachers, and parents.
  • Keep current with employment and education resources.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Work, Counseling, or related field.
  • 2+ years experience working with at-risk youth or student support services.
  • Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Clear state and federal criminal history.
  • Deep commitment to supporting students who have disengaged from traditional school settings.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in non-traditional or alternative education settings.
  • Bilingual (Spanish preferred).
  • Strong comfort with technology in educational settings.
  • Proficient understanding of ESE, ELL, and behavior intervention practices.
  • Experience reviewing transcripts and understanding graduation requirements.
  • Experience with project-based learning, portfolio assessment, and cross-disciplinary learning.
  • SCDE Educators Certification and CTE Endorsement and/or GCDF certification.

Student Achievement Impact Measurement

The Intervention Coach's effectiveness will be measured through quantitative and qualitative metrics including: graduation rates and time-to-graduation; improvement in standardized test scores and course grades; attendance rates; student retention; successful completion of career readiness milestones; and post-graduation outcomes. Weekly data collection from the LMS will track academic progress, while regular student surveys and teacher feedback will assess engagement and intervention effectiveness. The coach will maintain detailed records of all interventions, their outcomes, and student progress toward graduation requirements, submitting monthly impact reports comparing cohort performance against established benchmarks.
